On 26 April 2009, our daughter was born at the Rite of Passage Birthing Center.  We
had an amazingly beautiful experience.  40 weeks prior to the birth, we knew little
about midwifes or birthing centers.  Throughout the journey, Bernadette and her staff
taught and cared for us.  We definitely want to encourage anyone with a normal,
healthy pregnancy to go to a birthing center and specifically recommend Bernadette and
the Rite of Passage staff.  The environment at the Rite of Passage is personal and
warm, incredibly more so than our experience with hospitals and pediatricians.  
Bernadette has an amazing story and impressive credentials.  Beyond her midwifery
education, Bernadette is a certified nurse with a master’s degree.  She has many, many
years of post-graduate education, as well as experience working with OBGYN doctors in
hospital births.  Bernadette has personally seen her own children born in a hospital, in a
birthing center and started at a birthing center with a transfer to a hospital.  She has
the wisdom to know when intervention is necessary and when a normal and natural
childbirth is possible.  We trusted her to make wise decisions before, during and after
the birth, and we trust her completely now.  After the birth, she maintained, poise,
determination and leadership to care not only for our newborn but also for my wife, who
required a few stitches.  Again, the care and expertise from Bernadette and her staff is
remarkable.  After the birth, we were overjoyed and feasted as Bernadette and her staff
cared for mother and child, performing checkups and checkouts of baby and mother.  
They were patient as they explained and allowed us to learn how to latch a baby on for
proper nursing and such things as how to watch and record the baby’s temperature and
breathing over the next several days.  Bernadette even made a house visit a few days
after the birth to check on mother and child.  This is outstanding care!
Thank you, Bernadette and the Rite of Passage Staff.  We highly recommend your
facility and your personal care to anyone interested and able to experience natural

Bernie, Jamie, Mary Lou, and Lisa, I had a wonderful experience.  I am so glad that I
found you.  I was always made to feel that I was so important.  Each of you took plenty
of time with me when I had needs and questions.  You went over and beyond what
Tommy and I ever expected.  You did and amazing job and I'll always be grateful for the
role each of you played in my pregnancy, birth, labor , delivery and postpartum care.
